Banking Current Affairs

  1. Consumer loans became cheaper with banks moving to a new way of setting lending rates following RBI’s diktat to ensure faster and effective transmission of its policy rate cuts to borrowers. RBI had asked banks to price fixed rate loans of up to three years based on marginal cost of funds from April 1.
  2. Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and Saarc Development Fund (SDF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for mutual cooperation and collaboration.
  3. The Singapore’s largest bank, DBS has unveiled the ‘mobile only bank’ in India.   1. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has launched a new index Nifty MidSmallcap 400. It will represent the mid and small market capitalization segments of the stock market.
  2. The government has issued a new set of income tax return (ITR) forms that require people with an income of Rs 50 lakh and above per annum to disclose their assets.
  3. The Union Finance Minister has extended the safeguard duty on import of some steel products by two years i.e till March 2018.   4. The government of India has approved an investment of Rs.9,005 crore for construction of 73,205 more houses for Economically Weaker Sections(EWS) in urban under Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana(PMAY) in the States of Maharashtra, Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir.

  1. The Union Government has launched the Startup India portal ( and mobile application. The portal and mobile app provide up-to- date information issued by various Government ministries/ departments.
  2. The mobile application ‘Vidyut Pravah’ has been launched by Mr. Piyush Goyal, the minister of state (Independent Charge) for Power, coal, new and renewable energy, to empower Common People to Demand 24×7 Power from The States.
  3. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has launched the first phase of the Green Delhi initiative by planting trees at the Triangular Park near ITO Chowk.
  4. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched an innovative mobile application titled e-voter with comprehensive details about the forthcoming 2016 Assembly polls in Kerala. The app is envisaged for voters’ facilitation for search in electoral roll, information regarding candidates, location of polling station, affidavit filed by them, filing of complaint and so on.
  5. The Union Government has launched India’s first online interactive heritage portal named Sahapedia was in New Delhi. The web portal is a collaborative knowledge resource on the arts, culture and heritage of India. Sahapedia is a not-for-profit society headed by former TCS chairman S. Ramadorai, who currently helms the National Skill Development Agency.
  6. The Union Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry has notified new rules to give effect amended Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. The new rules seek to tighten provisions to ensure speedy justice to members of the SC/ST community. The new rules aims at speeding up the process of dispensation of justice, liberalise and expedite access to relief for victims of atrocities, ensuring special sensitivity in cases of offences against women.
  7. India lays foundation stone for 4000 houses under the third and final phase of Housing Project in Central and Uva Provinces of Sri Lanka. High Commissioner of India, Y.K.Sinha, and Minister of Infrastructure and Community Development, Palani Digambaram jointly laid the foundation stone for the third phase of the Indian Housing Project at Dunsinane Estate in Nuwara Eliya District.

  11. The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme was launched by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and has completed one year of implementation. On completion of its first year, the BBBP scheme is being expanded in additional 61 districts across 11 States/UTs with low Child Sex Ratio.

Parliamentary Standing Committee has been formed to tackle misleading advertising as well as to fix liability on endorsers/celebrities.The committee to be headed by MP J C Divakar Reddy advocated that the Department of Consumer Affairs should be empowered to make laws to regulate growing sectors of e-commerce, direct selling and multi-level marketing where consumer complaints are on the rise.
  6. The Global data services company, Experian, headquarter in Dublin, Ireland, has launched its ‘Hunter Fraud Score’ in India, which is a new scoring mechanism. The mechanism will help to measure the probability of fraud in a credit application across banking and insurance industries. It will help the country to increase their efficiency in fraud detection.
  7. TIME released the list of 100 most influential people which featured six Indians including RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan and actress Priyanka Chopra. Tennis ace Sania Mirza, environmentalist Sunita Narain along with Flipkart Co-founders Sachin and Binny Bansal were other Indians on the list. The list also featured Indian-origin Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
  8. The Union Government has recently constituted 8member inter-ministerial committee to prepare a blueprint for doubling farmers’ income by 2022. The committee will be headed by Ashok Dalwai, Additional secretary at the Union Agriculture Ministry and is expected to submit the report in two months.
  9. The Union Government constituted a high-level committee to suggest ways to strengthen the border protection along the border with Pakistan. The committee will be headed by former Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta and will submit its report in three months.
