Triple talaq certificate issued by chief kazi has no legal sanction

  • The Madras high court has clarified that certificate issued by chief kazi for triple talaq is only an opinion and has no legal sanction under the Kazis Act, 1880.
  • The court also said pending consideration by the Muslim Personal Law Board, no certificate in respect of talaq would be issued by the chief kazi.


World Bank projects global growth at 2.7{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} in 2017

  • World Bank projected a global growth of 2.7{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} in 2017, even as it observed that stagnant global trade, subdued investment and heightened policy uncertainty marked another difficult year for the world economy.
  • World Bank President Jim Yong Kim stated that global economic growth is forecast to accelerate moderately to 2.7{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} in 2017 after a post-crisis low of 2.3{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} in 2016.

Air pollution a national problem

  • According to an analysis of 2015 data by Greenpeace India, pollution levels in various cities across the country at an alarming.
  • Of the 168 cities studied by Greenpeace India, 154 were found to have an average particulate matter level higher than the national standard.


DEFCOM – 2017:

  • DEFCOM – 2017 was recently inaugurated in Delhi.
  • Theme- ‘Infrastructure and Skilled Human Resource for Digital Army’.
  • DEFCOM is an annual seminar organised jointly by the Corps of Signals of Indian Army and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
  • DEFCOM is the most seminal forum for interaction between the officers of the Armed Forces, Indian Industry, Academia and R&D organisations on matters related to operational communication systems for the Army.

India-CERT Signs an MoU with US-CERT

  • India and the US have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for close cooperation and exchange of information pertaining to cyber security. The MoU was signed between Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) and US CERT.
  • The MoU intends to promote closer co-operation and the exchange of information pertaining to the Cyber Security in accordance with the relevant laws, rules and regulations of each economy and this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and on the basis of equality, reciprocity and mutual benefit.

  • Actress Tisca Chopra named as Best Actress for Chutney at the Jio Filmfare Short Film Awards.
  • Popular actress Tisca Chopra stated that winning her first Filmfare Award for short film Chutney is extra special as it’s a project she not just acted in, but also produced and co-wrote.

  • Vikram Pawah has been appointed as the president of BMW Group India, effective from March 1, 2017.


Telangana to Host International Kite Festival from January 12, 2017

  • The second international kite festival coinciding with the ‘Makar Sankranti’ fest would be held for six days from January 12, 2017 in Hyderabad and two other districts in Telangana.
  • Telangana Tourism, which is organizing the International Kite Festival-2017,  committed to a social cause of raising awareness about the importance of education and empowerment of girl children and expects a footfall of around 50,000 visitors.

Allahabad: Magh Mela begins

  • The month-long Magh Mela festival began on 12 January 2017 at Sangam in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Thousands of Pilgrims, saint and seers are taking holy dip at Sangam on the occasion of Paush Purnima.
  • The month-long kalpwas also began with the holy bathing.
