 Biren Singh to be Sworn in Next CM of Manipur

  • The incumbent Chief Minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi Singh resigned from the post giving way for formation of a new ministry under the BJP.
  • This is the first time the BJP has come to power in the north-eastern state.


Labour Ministry’s new rule to ensure employer hiring contract labour files unified annual return

  • In yet another initiative towards improving the ease of doing business in the country, the labour ministry has notified draft rule that would allow principal employer or contractor hiring contract labour to file a unified annual return under the Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act, 1970.
  • Under the rules, to be called as the Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Central (Amendment) Rules, 2017, every contractor or principal employer shall upload a unified annual return in the Form XXIV specified in these rules on or before the February 1 following the close of the year to which it relates.
  • Besides, the employer or the principal contractor qalso have the option of filing the return manually or online.
  • The principal employer or contractor shall also file a Unified Annual Return to the concerned authorities manually.
  • In case, if, an employer maintains registers or records or reports in electronic form, such registers or records or reports shall also be taken into consideration.

Centre Launches New Scheme TIES for Developing Export Linked Infrastructure

  • The Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched a new scheme named Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES) on March 15, 2017 for developing export linked infrastructure and boost the competitiveness of India’s shipments.
  • It aims to bridge the infrastructure gap in India to ensure smoother movement of export cargo and also ensure quality standards and certification measures to promote outbound shipment.
  • The scheme will have a total budgetary allocation of Rs 600 crore for three years with an annual outlay of Rs 200 crore.
  • It will be implemented from April 1, 2017 and span from 2017-18 till 2019-20.
  • An inter-ministerial empowered committee under the chairmanship of commerce secretary Rita Teaotia has been constituted for sanctioning and monitoring of the project.

SBI Announces One Time Settlement Scheme Worth Rs 6,000 cr for Tractor Loan

  • The country’s largest lender, State Bank of India announced a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme worth Rs 6,000 crore on March 14, 2017 for tractor and farm mechanization loans to improve the loan recovery.
  • Under the scheme, the loans disbursed before 2011 and falling in the doubtful or loss assets category as of September 30, 2016 would be considered.
  • Proposals submitted till March 31, 2017 will be considered under the scheme.
  • The bank is willing to write off 40 percent of the outstanding principal amount of the loan under the scheme.
  • As per the data, SBI’s total farm loan portfolio is 1.25 Lakh Crore rupees and tractor loan book is about 6,000 crore rupees.

World Bank loan for MP solar plant

  • The World Bank has agreed to provide a loan to develop internal transmission arrangements of the upcoming Rewa Ultra Mega Solar project in Madhya Pradesh.
  • It will provide 25{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} of the loan amount under its Clean Technology Fund, where the money will be provided at an interest rate of only 0.25{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769}. This would be the first solar power project in the country to receive a loan under Clean Technology Fund (CTF).

Reliance Comunications gets SEBI approval for merger with Aircel

  • Reliance Communications has received approvals from markets regulator SEBI and the stock exchanges for proposed demerger of its wireless business into Aircel Ltd.
  • Reliance Communications has received approval of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), BSE and NSE for the proposed scheme of arrangement for demerger of the wireless division of the company into Aircel Ltd and Dishnet Wireless Ltd.

Now, book an Uber when flying Jet Airways

  • Full-service airline Jet Airways has announced a partnership with ride-hailing app Uber to book airport cabs through the Jet Airways app itself.
  • The airline will partner Uber and facilitate travel from the airport once a passenger has booked a ticket on the Jet Airways app.
  • Guests booking their flights on the app and using Uber for the first time will also benefit from a discount of Rs. 150 across their first three rides by using the promo code JETUBER.


World’s first fluorescent frog:   

  • The world’s first fluorescent frog, which glows bright green under UV light, has been found in Argentina. The tree-frog was discovered in the Amazon basin in Argentina. In daylight it appears to have brown-green skin with red dots.world’s first fluorescent frog
  • The frog is a dull green/brown with red spots in normal light but the researchers were surprised to find that it gleamed with fluorescent light under their UV torches.
  • Fluorescent skin pigments absorb light at short wavelengths and re-emit it at longer wavelengths.
  • They are uncommon in animals that live on land, but can be found in some underwater creatures such as certain species jellyfish and anglerfish.
  • The glowing frog was found to fluoresce using both lymph and glandular secretions.
  • The chemical that gives the frog its greenish glow had never been found in vertebrates before.
  • They can project up to 18{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} as much visible light as a full moon. This depended on the level of ambient light in its environment.


World Consumer Rights Day being observed: 15 March

  • World Consumer Rights Day is being observed today (15 March 2017) which is an awareness day and theme for this year is ‘Building a Digital World Consumers can Trust’. Several functions are being organized across the country to mark the occasion.
  • The first World Consumer Rights Day was observed on 1983, and has since become an important occasion for mobilizing citizen action. In India, besides the World Consumer Rights Day, we observe the National Consumer Day on 24th of December every year.


Shashank Manohar resigns as ICC chairman

  • First independent chairman of ICC, Shashank Manohar(59) has resigned from the post with an immediate effect on March 15, 2017.
  • Manohar sent his resignation letter to ICC chief executive David Richardson.
