PM launches #Sandesh2Soldiers campaign

  • It is a campaign through which people can send their Diwali greetings and messages to the soldiers to boost their morale.
  • The messages can be sent under the #Sandesh2Soldiers campaign on the Narendra Modi App, through MyGov.in, and also through All India Radio. PM Modi will be leading the campaign.

India beat Iran 38-29 to win 2016 Kabaddi World Cup in Ahmedabad

  • India beat Iran 38-29 to win their third successive Kabaddi World Cup.
  • A brilliant second half performance saw India stage a memorable comeback as they beat Iran 38-29 in the title clash to lift the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup.
  • Ajay Thakur was the star performer claiming 12 points in the final.

Aviation scheme UDAN(Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik) takes off

  • The Centre unveiled a regional connectivity scheme, known as UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik), with flights priced at Rs.2,500 for one hour of flying time to and from regional airports.
  • Under the scheme, airlines will be offered a slew of sops at smaller airports such as waiver of landing and parking charges.

About UDAN

  • The UDAN scheme seeks to provide connectivity to un-served and under-served airports of the country through revival of existing air-strips and airports.
  • This first-of-its-kind scheme will ensure affordability, connectivity, growth and development. It aims to increase ticketing volume from 80 million to 300 million by 2022.
  • Under it regional connectivity will be developed on market-based mechanism under which Airlines will bid for seat subsidies.
  • Airline operators will bid for up to 40 subsidised seats and minimum seats will be 9. There will be 50{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} seats on market based pricing.
  • It will create affordable yet economically viable and profitable flights on regional routes so that flying becomes affordable to the common man even in small towns.
  • Under it, airlines will have complete freedom to enter into code sharing with larger airlines for connectivity and they will be exempted from various airport charges.
  • Airlines will have exclusive rights for three years to fly on a particular regional route.
  • On these routes for regional flights Airfares will be capped at 2500 rupees for an hour’s flight.

Mehar Mittal, legend of comedy in Punjabi movies, passes away

  • Veteran Punjabi actor Mehar Mittal, who acquired legendary status with his comic roles, passed away at a hospital in Mount Abu, Rajasthan, on 22nd October 2016 after prolonged illness.
  • He was to turn 81 on October 24, 2016.

ICICI, Axis, StanChart get back $2.5 bn of Essar loans

  • Within days of Essar Group signing a mega USD 12.9-billion asset sale in its oil business, three top lenders – ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and StanChart, have got back an estimated USD 2.5 billion as part of the first payment for their debt exposure to the Ruias-led conglomerate.
  • The two Indian lenders which together had an exposure of USD 1.5 billion, will get back nearly half of their money or about USD 770 million in cash while further USD 750 million of debt will get transferred to Rosneft-led consortium and Essar’s ports and other businesses, as per the terms agreed upon by them.

President inaugurates Sardar Patel Heart Institute at Ankleshwar

  • President Pranav Mukherjee has inaugurated the Sardar Patel Heart Institute at Ankleshwar in Gujarat.
  • He also unveiled the statue of Sardar Patel situated in the institute premises and is scheduled to deliver an address at the institute in a short while.

India’s first startup magazine launched

  • The Cofounder launches itself as India’s first startup magazine that will help boost the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the country through its stories.
  • The Cofounder, founded by Adhish Verma and Arunraj Rajendran, is the first startup magazine that will talk about real stories behind the early stage startups and entrepreneurs.

About Start Up India

  • Startup India campaign is based on an action plan aimed at promoting bank financing for start-up ventures to boost entrepreneurship and encourage start ups with jobs creation
  • It is focused on to restrict role of States in policy domain and to get rid of “license raj” and hindrances like in land permissions, foreign investment proposal, environmental clearances.
