Colombia Government, FARC rebels sign revised Peace Agreement

  • Colombian Government has signed revised peace agreement with the country’s largest rebel movement, Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
  • The revised document was signed between President Juan Manual Santos and FARC leader Rodrigo Londono in Bogota, capital city of Colombia.

Andhra Pradesh CM launches Water Distribution Monitoring Portal

  • Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu has launched the ‘Smart Water Distribution Monitoring’ web portal, which will enable the people to track the status of drinking water in the nearby water tanks.
  • The Water Distribution Monitoring portal can be accessed from the website ourvmc.org.


Union Government imposes safeguard duty on certain steel imports

  • The Union Government has imposed safeguard duty on import of certain steel products to protect domestic manufacturers from cheap in-bound shipments.
  • It was imposed by the Revenue Department on steel products like hot rolled flat sheets and plates of alloy (excluding hot rolled flat products in coil form) or non-alloy steel.
  • The effective duty rate will be calculated after deducting value of goods and the anti-dumping duty payable when import price is below $504 per tonne. The duty arrived at would be 10{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} in the first year and will gradually reduce to 8{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} by 2018 and 6{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} by 2019.

IBBI notifies two regulations under Bankruptcy Code

  • The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board (IBBI) of India has notified two regulations in exercise of its powers conferred under section 240 of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.
  • These two regulations inter alia provide for the eligibility norms to be a professional member of an insolvency professional agency and also for eligibility norms to be registered with the IBBI as an insolvency professional agency.
  • Under the regulations, a firm registered under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013 — having minimum net worth of Rs 10 crore — would be eligible to be an insolvency professional agency.
  • The Code, notified by the government in May this year, seeks to consolidate and amend laws relating to reorganisation as well as insolvency resolution of corporate persons, partnership firms and individuals in a time-bound manner.


International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women: 25 November

  • The 2016 International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is observed across the world on 25 November annually.
  • The theme for this year is “Orange the World – raise funds to end violence against women”.
  • The orange colour in the theme symbolizes a better future to women and girls all over the globe without the pervasive human rights violation which affects 1 in 3 women and girls all over the globe.
  • This day is commemorated in the memory of the Mirabal sisters who were three political activists from the Dominican Republic. They were brutally assassinated during the Rafael Trujillo dictatorship (1930-1961) in 1960.


Manoj Bajpayee wins best actor at Asia Pacific Screen Awards held in Brisbane

  • Indian actor Manoj Bajpayee has won thebest performance award by an actor at the 10th Asia Pacific Screen Awards beating Nawazuddin Siddiqui,who was awarded a special mention in the same category.


N V Srinivasan appointed as Indo-American Chamber of Commerce President

  • NVS and Associates Managing Partner, N V Srinivasan is elected as its National President of Trade body Indo-American Chamber of Commerce for the period 2016-17 by the committee of the Chamber during the meeting held in Mumbai.
  • Bhasin and Company Managing Partner Lalit Bhasin and entrepreneur Vasant Subramanyan were elected as Executive Vice-Presidents respectively


Tribals celebrate Wangala harvest festival in Meghalaya

  • Garo tribals People of Meghalaya celebrated the harvest festival of Wangala to marks the end of a period of toil for farmers wanting a good output from their fields.
  • On the first day of the festival, the people offer their agriculture produce to the Sun God, while on the second day or Kakkat,they will dance Wangala Dance
