Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Costa launch unique Start-up portal

  • Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Costa recently launched a unique startup Portal – the India-Portugal International StartUp Hub (IPISH) – in Lisbon.
  • This is a platform initiated by Startup India and supported by Commerce & Industry Ministry and Startup Portugal to create a mutually supportive entrepreneurial partnership.

NATIONAL

EC disqualifies Minister in M.P.

  • The Election Commission has disqualified Narottam Mishra, Minister in the Madhya Pradesh government from membership of any State legislature and contesting polls for the next three years for filing wrong accounts of election expenditure.
  • Membership of the minister was revoked under section 10A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, to be read with Sections 77 and 78 of the Act. This relates to providing wrong information to the Commission on expenses incurred during the polls.

HRD Ministry Constitutes K. Kasturirangan Panel to Frame National Education Policy

  • The HRD ministry has constituted a new nine-member panel headed by space scientist K Kasturirangan to frame a new National Education Policy (NEP).
  • The other members of the panel include chosen experts and educationists from wide-ranging backgrounds.
  • The panel includes former IAS officer K.J. Alphonse Kanamthanam, who was instrumental in making Kerala’s Kottayam and Ernakulam districts achieve 100{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} literacy.
  • Another member of the panel will be Ram Shanker Kureel who has wide experience in the field of agricultural sciences and management. He is also the Vice-Chancellor of Baba Saheb Ambedkar University of Social Sciences, Mhow, Madhya Pradesh.
  • The committee also comprises of M.K. Shridhar, former member secretary of the Karnataka State Innovation Council, T.V. Kattimani, an expert on language communication, Dr. Mazhar Asif, professor of Persian at Guwahati University, Krishan Mohan Tripathi, a former director of education, Uttar Pradesh, mathematician Manjul Bhargava from Princeton University and Vasudha Kamat, former vice chancellor of Mumbai’s SNDT University.

World Bank clears $250-million loan for Skill India Mission

  • The World Bank has cleared a USD 250-million loan to aid the Skill India mission. The loan amount would be used for making Indian youth more employable through reskilling.

NASA’s Opportunity Mars Rover finds evidence of Ancient Lake

  • NASA’s Mars rover Opportunity has found rocks at the edge of Endeavour Crater that might have been a lake of liquid water.
  • The scientists believe that the rocks were either transported by a flood or eroded in place by the wind.

International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking: 26 June

  • By resolution 42/112 of 7 December 1987, the General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit.
  • The theme for 2017 is- “Listen First – Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe.”

Manushi Chhillar from Haryana wins the title of Miss India 2017

  • The 54th Femina Miss India World 2017 winner is Manushi Chhillar from Haryana, while the first runner-up is Sana Dua from Jammu and Kashmir and the second runner-up is Priyanka Kumari from Bihar.

BOOK LAUNCH

Naidu launches book titled ‘The Emergency-Indian Democracy’s Darkest Hour’

  • Venkaiah Naidu has launched the book which titled ‘The Emergency – Indian Democracy’s Darkest Hour’.
  • A book is written by Surya Prakash who is a chairman of Prasar Bharati.
  • The book was launched at a conference to mark the anniversary of the Emergency and to honor all those who fought for the restoration of democracy in the country in the mid-1970s.

ISSF Junior World Rifle/Pistol Championship: Yashaswini Deswal and Anish Bhanwala Wins Gold

  • Indian shooters Yashaswini Singh Deswal and Anish Bhanwala has bagged gold in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol and Men’s 25m Standard Pistol competition respectively in the Junior World Rifle/Pistol Championship held in Germany.
  • Yashaswini Singh Deswal fired a record 235.9 points to clinch the gold. Earlier in 2016, Yashaswini Singh Deswal had managed to clinch silver in the 10m air pistol event at the junior world cup held in Germany.

 Doon girl Bhumika Sharma wins Miss World title in bodybuilding championship

  • Bhumika Sharma, another Indian has become Miss World in bodybuilding championship.
  • Dehradun’s girl gained maximum points in three categories – individual posing, body posing and fall in that eventually bagged her the Miss World title and the gold medal at the world championship in Venice, Italy. The championship drew 50 competitors from different countries.

Anish Bhanwala set a junior world record at World Championship

  • Haryana’s Anish Bhanwala gave a robust start for the Indian challenge by clinching the 25-metre standard pistol gold with a world junior record in the Junior World Shooting Championship in Suhl, Germany.
