Nepal rejects India’s ‘open sky’ offer

  • Nepal has rejected India’s ‘open sky’ offer to allow unlimited flights between the two countries at a recently held meeting. Nepal said it was not yet ready for the agreement.

Open Sky Agreement

  • Under the National Civil Aviation Policy, approved by the Union Cabinet earlier this year, India intends to enter into ‘open-sky’ agreements with SAARC countries and with those beyond the 5,000-km radius from Delhi.
  • Under the ‘open-sky’ agreement, there is no restriction on flights or seats.
  • Among SAARC countries, India doesn’t have any ‘open sky’ agreement with Pakistan, Nepal and Afghanistan. It allows unlimited flights from Bangladesh and Maldives at 18 domestic airports, from Sri Lanka at 23 airports, and from Bhutan at all its airports.


PM Modi lays foundation stone of 900 km Char Dham highway ;tribute to those who lost their lives during Uttarakhand flash floods

  • PM Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of all weather Char Dham highway development project in Dehradun.
  • Char Dham Yatra is an annual pilgrimage to the shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.
  • The Char Dham highway project involves building tunnels, viaducts, bridges and bypasses in the entire state, along with way-side amenities that will include helipad for emergency evacuation and parking facilities, among others.
  • The project includes developing 900 km of National Highways in Uttarakhand at Rs  12,000 crore.


Tribal development remains poor: Tribal Ministry report

  • According to recently released annual report of the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the tribal population in India lags behind other social groups on various social parameters.
  • The tribal population lags in parameters such as child mortality and infant mortality and women’s health, education, poverty

NBWL gives nod to Ken-Betwa Inter-Linking of Rivers Project

  • The National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) has given its clearance for the Ken-Betwa inter-linking of rivers (ILR) project, paving the way to begin work for linking two rivers.

NBWL has set some conditions which are :

  • Integration of nearby sanctuaries including Ranipur and Rani Durgavati with the Panna Tiger Reserve to compensate loss of tiger habitat and complete ban of fresh mining lease in the area.
  • The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) will take care of the landscape plan for the area with the help of Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and state forest departments.

Gujarat government announces Biotechnology Policy 2016

  • Gujarat Government announced its ‘Biotechnology Policy-2016’ to establish state as a preferred destination for manufacturing of biotechnology products.
  • The policy has provisions for various incentives for investors who are keen to set up their units in the state.


Bihar government announces 50 {be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} reservation in both Superior Judicial Services and Subordinate Judicial Services.

  • The Bihar Cabinet has declared 50{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} reservation in all judicial services for aspirants belonging to the Extremely Backward Classes, Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
  • Aspirants belonging to EBCs will get 21{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} reservation, OBCs will have 12{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} reservations, Scheduled Castes will have 16{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} reservation and Scheduled Tribes will be provided 1{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} reservation in all judicial services of the State.
  • Also, there will be 35{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} ‘horizontal reservation’ for women and 1 per{be19e8fcc7081f751eba9e03bd22e904e5cf3e86733381e655a03b1ab7839769} reservation for disabled persons.


Supercluster of galaxies near Milky Way found hidden earlier by stars and dust in the Milky Way.

  • An international team of astronomers has found one of the universe’s biggest superclusters of galaxies near the Milky Way- the Vela supercluster.


Rajasthani writer Satya Narayan chosen for 2016 Bihari Puraskar

  • Eminent Rajasthani litterateur Dr Satya Narayan was chosen for the 26th Bihari Puraskar 2016 by the K K Birla Foundation.
  • He was been chosen for his Hindi book titled Yeh Ek Dunia published in 2010.

About Bihari Puraskar

  • Instituted in 1991 by the Foundation, the award which is named after famous Hindi poet Bihari, recognises outstanding work in Hindi or Rajasthani, published during the last ten years by a Rajasthani writer.
  • It is named after famous Hindi poet Bihari. It carries cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs, besides a citation and a plaque.


ShahRukh Khan Conferred with Honorary Doctorate for promoting Urdu Language

  • Actor Shahrukh Khan has received an honorary doctorate from Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in Hyderabad for his extraordinary contribution in promotion of the Urdu language and culture through his films.


Viral V.Acharya appointed as RBI Deputy Governor

  • He will fill the post that fell vacant after Urjit Patel after he was made RBI Governor to succeed Rajan with effect from September 2016.
  • The existing three Deputy Governors of RBI are S. Mundra, R.Gandhi and N.S. Vishwanathan.


16-year-old Indian shooter equals Rio gold medallist’s score

  • Shooter Pruthviraj Ayachi shot 209.5 in the finals of the junior men’s 50 meters Rifle Prone event at the National Shooting Championship, equalling the score of the Rio Olympics’ gold medallist.
